Center for the Book

The federal and state Center for the Book organizations and their programs are dedicated to the promotion of literacy. They seek to draw to the attention of the general public the seminal and continuing importance books have for our culture, our society, our civilization, and ourselves. Often in collaboration with universities and state public library systems, these Center for the Book movements provide a valuable service for the general reading public. Several of these centers are now on the Web. I recommend to all of you who enjoy the benefits and pleasures of the written word to visit them.
