The Wicked Good Book
Stephen Gleasner
Down East Books
PO Box 679
Camden, ME 04843
9781608931811 $24.95 www.downeastbooks.com
The Wicked Good Book is a self-described "guide to Maine living" filled with vignettes about
Maine flora, fauna, sports, pastimes, and plenty of good clean outdoors fun. In down-to-earth
folksy terms, The Wicked Good Book tells of the joy of keeping chickens, hunting rats with a
gun (the most effective way to control their numbers - poison is far more cruel to both the rat and
anything that eats it), preparing a lobster for boiling water, how to maximize one's odds of
survival upon falling through ice or encountering an aggressive bull moose, racing go-carts or
skipping stones, making a long bow like Robin Hood might have once used, and much more.
Black-and-white sketches illustrate this wonderful tribute to country life and wilderness
recreation. The Wicked Good Book brings a little bit of outdoors splendor into the living room,
and heartily encourages the reader to taste a bit of Maine-style fun on their own! "The idea for
geocaching is you take an item from a cache and replace it with an item of similar value.
Geocaching is really a modern, high-tech game of hide and seek. And there are more than six
thousand active geocaches in the Pine Tree State, and Maine's cachers create an average of 2.5
new caches each day."
