integral learning components for teachers of students grades K-2. "Well Played" begins with
criteria for a learning definition of games, puzzles or activities, suggesting the following criteria
to identify good educational games and puzzles: " It addresses important mathematical ideas. It is

supports the habits of mind essential for success with mathematics and real-world problem
solving (p. 3)." Chapter 2 of the book, Supporting Learning Through Games and Puzzles,
addresses approaches to help organize students' participation in games and puzzles for learning
success. The remaining chapters 3 though 7 address different math concepts as follows: counting
and ordering, base ten numeration, addition, subtraction, and addition and subtraction. Each
chapter game summary has a highlighted section that lists the math focus, materials needed, and
directions, plus a description of how it looks in the classroom, tips from the classroom, and what
to look for. Also added are variations, exit question choices, and extensions, plus occasional
online games and apps suggestions. A handy Appendix provides copies of game materials,
puzzle solutions, and game directions. Additional suggestions for explanations to parents, and
working with families to further their children's math education and learning. In summary, "Well
Played" offers innovative yet tried and true approaches to math education through creative use of
